Welcome to my page. I am Sharon Slavinsky, a graduate candidate at Southeastern Louisiana University and the Technology Facilitator at Bayou Woods Elementary (BWE) in Slidell, Louisiana. BWE embarked on a journey to encourage the use of technology above and beyond what was required by the parish and state departments. To answer that challenge we created a teaching position in which one person would be responsible for guaranteeing the use of technology through the use of integrated professional development and teaching the teachers how to use technology to enhance everyday teaching situations. Thus was born my position, the brainchild of many wonderful supporters at our school and parish level. Through integrated professional development and guidance of lessons with support, we have created an atmosphere in which Learning is Fun and Learning is Forever. WHO AM I?My family moved to Slidell in 1973. I attended Carolyn Park Elementary school, Slidell Jr. High and graduated from Slidell High School in 1985. I received my undergraduate’s degree from the University of New Orleans in May 1993 and began a teaching career at Bayou Woods Elementary in August of the same year. I am a graduate candidate in the Masters of Education, Administration and Supervision with a concentration in Educational Leadership Technology at Southeastern LA University. I married a wonderful man from Pennsylvania in 1990 and we have a beautiful daughter that we adopted from Guatemala in 2001.Teaching was always a dream of mine and I wanted to return to the neighborhood that I grew up in to teach. I was blessed when given the opportunity to teach at the elementary school that resulted when Carolyn Park became a middle school in 1986. My principal was my first grade teacher at Carolyn Park, and I have the unique privilege of working with many of the teachers with whom I respected as a student.I started my career as a special education teacher for three years. I then taught first grade for eight years and have been the technology facilitator for the past 5 years. I love having the opportunity to work not only with my colleagues, but also, every student at Bayou Woods. |
